I am missing you

Every year Indonesian Consulate General in Sydney holds a celebration. I though the events are conducted in terms of Indonesian Independence Day. This year, this celebration was held at Addison Road, Marrickvile Suburb on Saturday, August 4th. The theme was Indonesian Food and Culture Festival and it indicates the activities that are done.

The stands that erected at field sold some Indonesian traditional meals such as Padang Satay Chicken, Palembang empek-empek, Bandung Siomay, Nasi Uduk, lontong and Nasi Kuning. They also sold some traditional snack such as kelepon, martabak telur, martabak manis, etc. for the drink, instead of water and soft drinks, we also could find bandrek, durian juice, cendol, es teler. What a tasteful food and drink…

For me, I took chicken satay as a beginning and water. About 1 hour later, I grabbed empek-empek Palembang and hot bandrek. It was perfect for winter.

Among food stands, I also found “free massage stand”. (How weird, is not it?). Do not worry, guys it was not “plus-plus massage”. I though it was Chinese massage.

There was also a cultural stage. Younger generation showed their ability in dancing and singing. Do you still remember these songs such as “Syukur”, “Rayuan Pulai Kelapa”? They sang those. They also performed some dances such as “Persembahan” from Padang, and "Saman" from Aceh.

After cultural attraction, I decided to take away another chicken satay for dinner, and durian juice. The satay was completely delicious because the taste was similar to satay that I have found in Indonesia.

There was also kiddy’s Olympic. I bet it was a competition of some traditional sports for kids such as tarik tambang. Unfortunately, I was back earlier about 4 pm, because the festival was ended up at 11 pm. The festival was begun at 11 am and for entrĂ©e we should pay AUD 3. Interestingly, Garuda Indonesia Airlines as one of sponsors gave a ticket for returning to Indonesia as a door prize.

I met many Indonesian students, Australian citizenships who were originally from Indonesia, mixed marriage couples, and some foreigners. It was interesting, especially when I saw their kids, they were so pretty. I did believe, the combination between Asian and Westerns generated perfect younger generation.

I am missing you, INDONESIA

wuih, ternyata aroma 17 agustus merambah sampai keluar negeri ya.. keren.. di Indo juga lagi rame2nya nih bikin acara menyambut 17-an. kalo di Jkt sih agak2 kurang semarak dibanding tahun lalu coz bertepatan dengan masa kampanye calon gubernur :(

"the combination between Asian and Westerns generated perfect younger generation" hm, apakah ini berarti Mas Bakhri akan mencari 'seseorang' di sana?! :D
